Residents of a village in Migori county were left puzzled when one of them was caught in a compromising position with a neighbour’s cow.
Wife to the owner of the cow caught the half dressed man red-handed in the act in the bushes in Manyatta area, God Jope ward, Suna East constituency.
According to The Standard, the man, who was recently released from prison after being convicted of rape, took off as the woman let out a loud scream, leaving his clothes and underwear behind.
“My wife had gone to move the cow to another spot when he found the man in the act. She started wailing, which attracted villagers to the scene,” the cow’s owner, only identified as Akila in the report, addressed villagers holding the suspect’s trousers up using a stick.
Chief of God Jope condemned the act, saying the man, who has a wife and children, was a disgrace to the community.
“I think this man is being haunted by demons. It is just the other day that he was convicted of rape,” he was quoted in the report.
Village elders decided to hold an impromptu meeting over the matter, so as to discuss a cleansing ceremony for the accused’s home.
They said the cleansing ritual is meant to protect the man’s children from the curse that seems to have befallen their home.
Any villager who would share information that would lead to the capture of the man, currently on the run, was promised a goat.
