Starehe MP Maina Kamanda has hit out at Kiambu Governor William Kabogo over his statement that insinuated that the region will not support Deputy President William Ruto bid for presidency come 2022 general elections.
Kamanda on Wednesday said that Kabogo has no authority to speak on behalf of Mt Kenya people and leaders.
The Starehe lawmaker termed Kabogo’s sentiments as unfortunate and aimed at causing divisions among Mt Kenya leaders and people.
“Kabogo has no authority whatsoever to speak on behalf of Mt Kenya leaders and people ,” said Kamanda on Wednesday.
Kamanda further described Kabogo’s statement as personal and not associated to any party in Mt Kenya region, referring him as a desperate person who fears being knocked out of politics come 2017.
“We know Kabogo is afraid that this could be his end in active politics and he should stop speaking for others and speak for himself,” added Kamanda.
Limuru MP John Kiragu has also hit out at Kabogo over his statement, saying Kabogo is speaking for himself and does not represent anyone.
“The statement by Kabogo is personal and does not reflect the views of Mt Kenya leaders,” said Kiragu on phone.
On Saturday, Governor Kabogo while at Muiri farm in Juja allegedly said that it was not clear and sure on whom the Mt Kenya region will support as President in 2022.
Kabogo said that whoever wants to earn a ticket for 2022 Presidential race must earn loyalty from the people.
The governor added that it was not automatic that the region will support a particular candidate in 2022.
Deputy President William Ruto will be seeking support of the Mt Kenya region for his 2022 presidential bid after the retirement of President Uhuru Kenyatta who is seeking reelection in 2017.
